Hot Stone Therapy is a type of massage using specially heated volcanic lava stones combined with Swedish style massage movements, which has healing properties for both the skin and underlying muscles. Hot Stone Massage is an ancient practice originating thousands of years ago in the Far East. Over the last few years, it has been re-discovered and has become very popular. In the early days, healers used rocks from river beds and warmed them either in hot coals or hot water. Placing the hot stones on cloth on the body and arranging them along the energy centres of the body would help to relax the muscles and reduce pain or discomfort, boosting the healing process. The process today is much the same, i.e. volcanic lava stones are heated to a specific temperature and applied in a variety of ways and whilst the heat penetrates your body, you will be given a Swedish style massage usually using aromatherapy oils. In addition, a light head massage is an option. The heat from the stones helps to increase your heart rate and helps to regulate your blood flow. It also helps to rid muscles of toxic waste products which result from both stress and bad lifestyle habits. Stiff joints benefit from the penetrating heat, making this an excellent choice of treatment following exercise or any form of physical activity. Hot Stone Therapy can also be used to help relieve stress, depression, PMT and is also effective in the relief of some skin disorders. In addition, it can help in the treatment of muscular aches, pains and strains, rheumatic and arthritic conditions as well as Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, back pain and insomnia. Key Benefits
